Huntsville Assistance Program
Highlands UMC is proud to be a member of the Huntsville Assistance Program.
In September of 2002, First Christian Church joined 7 other area churches in the Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP). The churches joined time, talent, and resources to help the needy in our community. Since that time, HAP has grown to 15 churches, including one in the county and one in the Northwest part of town. HAP has also gained 501(c) status and has been able to help more and more.
We have found that most of our requests come from those who have found themselves in a first time desperate situation (such as an illness, loss of job, etc.). HAP has also acted as a referral agency, connecting the clients to other agencies. Many have called to let the volunteers know that they are back on their feet and some have sent a contribution.
Donations: At present, HAP has the funding to disburse between $500-$800 per week. Of course, the organization always appreciates any donation. If you would like to honor someone or make a memorial gift, HAP would be a worthy organization to consider.
The HAP office is located at 406 ½ C Governors Drive in Huntsville, and the telephone number for requesting assistance is 256-539-2320. |
