Do you have any idea how many churches or worship centers there are in the city of Huntsville? Respectfully, I praise God for these symbols that be – speak to society that Huntsville is a city with an emphasis steeped in Christianity.
However, God has never had a need for housing. God did not ask David to build Him a house. It was David’s desire to build God a house like his very own. Why, this very week, I encountered denominational differences in doing community visitation, however, I encountered one common strand – Jesus! I went to one home, and a gentleman met me at the door. I told him, “I am Percy Nolan, minister of Highlands UMC,” and the man said, “I am a Witness.” I wanted to ask him what he thought I was doing, but knew his faith would not allow him to cross the bar.
I praise God for the numerous denominational centers, but I need to say that no one denomination can say of a truth that it is the one and only denomination that is pointing the way to Christ. Instead, God has broken down the walls that divide us. In Christ, we are joined together into a new structure. We have become the holy living temple of God. God doesn’t need a building to live in. He does need to take haven in the hearts and minds of the people of this world. Lets accept apostolic relationships and unite with others and paving the way of making more disciples in Christ.
The word apostle isn’t used that often in the gospels. Jesus, however, is using it here to clarify His position. Here Jesus uses the Greek – apostello – which means I send. As is stated in Mark 6:7, “Calling the Twelve to him, he sent then out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits.”
Going out two by two provides fellowship, encouragement, accountability, and adequate witness. To be this living holy temple requires these components.
Finally Mark tells us of the compassion of Jesus in Mk. 6:33-35 and of the disciples wishes to avoid the needs of the crowd. “Send them away.”
But Jesus’ reply was “you give them something to eat.”
Thomas calculated it would take 200 days of a working person’s pay to feed this crowd.
Remember, the apostles, the 12, and the disciples were sent or called to follow Christ, and to obey his command. He gave them specific orders and he disciples followed them. The multitudes were divided in groups of hundreds and fifties.
After discovering a boy with a lunch, the disciples brought it to Jesus. It was Jesus who gave bits and pieces to the disciples.
Followers: understand Jesus is able to give us the desires of our hearts. Blessings come to us from Jesus.
Jesus in the morning, Jesus in the evening, Jesus when the sun has gone down.
